Carol Jean (Roth) Shafer, 51, of Coffeyville, Kansas passed away on Sunday, July 15, 2012 in Eureka Springs, Arkansas.

Carol was born on March 5, 1961 in Coffeyville, Kansas to Clifford and Betty Jean (Calton) Roth. She grew up in South Coffeyville, Oklahoma where she attended grade school. She received her high school education from Nowata High School graduating in 1979. Carol attended NEO A&M College in Oklahoma and Coffeyville Community College where she received her Associate of Arts Degree in 1983.

On July 12, 1986 she was united in marriage to the love of her life Ric Shafer in Coffeyville, Kansas at the historical Brown Mansion. The couple made their home in rural Coffeyville. Carol was the Office Manager at TKI (Tessenderlo Kerley Incorporated) for the past six and a half years.

She formerly attended church at the First Baptist Church in South Coffeyville, Oklahoma and the Grace Assembly of God church in Coffeyville. Most recently she attended church at the First Assembly of God in Coffeyville. Carol had a passion for singing and music no matter what church she attended she was always involved in the music.

Carol was very active in support groups specializing in Weight Loss and Nutrition. She was active in the “Yes We Can” support group and was in charge of the “Ready For A Change” support group.

Carol enjoyed horseback riding, motor cycle riding, camping, boating and in addition to her passion for music she sang at weddings and enjoyed Karaoke. Most of all she was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She touched the heart of every person she met and will be greatly missed by many.

Surviving to honor her memory is her loving husband, Ric of the home; sons, Ric Shafer, Jr. of Lubbock, Texas, Curtis Shafer and wife Krystal of Coffeyville, Ethan Shafer of the home; daughters, Cassandra Shafer and significant other Brian Collins of Coffeyville, Rachel Caldwell and significant other Danny Dunsing of Mound Valley, Kansas; sister, Nelda Vest of Coffeyville; grandchildren, Tyler, Trenton, Taylor, Kelsi, Brian, Jayden, Summer, Autumn; one grandson on the way, Cassidy and a special niece, Beth Roth.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clifford and Betty Jean; son, Daniel L. Shafer and a grandson, Flint Shafer.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 21, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at First Assembly of God Church in Coffeyville. Pastor Randy DePriest will officiate. Friends may call on Friday, July 20, 2012 from 11:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Funeral Home to sign the guest register. The family will greet friends Friday evening at the funeral home from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

The family suggests memorial contributions can be made to the Carol Shafer Memorial Fund at Community National Bank; these may be left with the funeral home.
